Dragonfly is a field app for kids who like to look closely.

Kids ages 9–12 photograph plants and animals they find outdoors. Each find becomes a real scientific observation that contributes to iNaturalist — the global species database that researchers, conservationists, and educators use every day.

What it does

A kid opens the app, takes a photo, and Dragonfly identifies what they found, adds it to their personal dex, and (with permission) submits it to iNaturalist as a verified observation. Expeditions give them weekly goals; a sanctuary view rewards repeat trips outside.

Who it’s for

Built for the 9–12 age band specifically — old enough to photograph thoughtfully, young enough to still find a beetle delightful. Kid accounts are created by a parent or teacher and have no email, no ads, no public profile, and no way to message anyone outside their family or classroom group.

Where the data goes

Photographs and identifications get contributed to iNaturalist with the kid’s permission. The location, photo, and species are shared; no personal details about the child are ever attached.
